January Signing and Sales

Well well. I for one am absolutly delighted we have sold Defoe. Not because he is rubbish but because we have avoided another RSol situation. As far as I am concerned, that is exactly what Defoe was planning. As soon as his comments came out in the Sun a month or two ago about him being told he could leave but wants to stay and fight for his place and that he love the club and the fans, I feared the worst. It was a blatant PR attempt to keep the fans on his side. And it worked.

Time and time again I read on blogs and in forums about how badly Defoe had been treated. What a load of crap. Once a mercenary, always a mercenary. You have to look no further than our very own (now second choice) right back. As for the argument - 'Why should he sign a contract if he isn't getting a game?' What choice did the board/manager have? I think he was deliberately benched for games in which he would definitely have started had he signed a new contract. I think he was told that if he wanted to start more games he should sign a new contract and not look to mug the club off. There were rumours of a convesation overheard in a restaurant in Chingford last year in which Defoe was heard saying to his then agent Sky Andrews (who, in case you didn't know, is Campbells agent/gay lover) that we would love a move to Chelsea.

Some Spurs fans have short memories. I haven't, especially when it comes to that ncut Campbell.

Worth noting that is all speculation mind. And academic. So good luck Jermain, thanks for everything. Say hello to Campbell for me. Remind him that football is just a game, ones mental health is much more important.

At last we get some deadwood off the wage bill, all be it on loan. Of all the clubs I thought we could palm Gardner off to, I didn't think they would be sitting in forth place in Febuary. It's a funny old game.

As for Stalteri, he has found a club that I would say exactly fits his level as a footballer. Lets hope he impresses and we can make the deal permanent.

If the show at Goddison is anything to go by Woodgate looks an excellent signing. Although I don't suppose his class was ever doubted. More the keeping him out of Anderton's old office.

I know nothing about GilbertoII, but got to better than Lee. I hope he's left footed.

Similarly Hutton. I have seen him play only once. He was good. Lets hope he doesn't get too homesick. Which is easier said than done if you have just moved to Chigwell.

Good point in the week at Everton, i'd take the same on Saturday. After the Arsenal game however (which is still very fresh in the memory), it would take an absolute battering from ManYoo to bring my spirits and optimism down.

Ledleys Swollen Knee predicts 1-1

Welcome Woody

Very much a surprise to me this one. I guess we can safely assume that the rumours of Ledley's physical inability to play more than one game a fortnight are indeed sound.

Can't help feeling for Dawson and, dare I say it, Kaboul. With King alongside him Dawson looks like a battling, rugged, determined, wholehearted centre-half, unafraid to put his head in where it hurts. Without King he looks like an error prone non-footballer. Still, you can't doubt his commitment and effort. And anyway, I think it says more about King's world classness than Dawson's lack of world classness.

Although this is something of a digression, is it me or is Dawson the ruler of giving unnecessary free kicks away? Especially when the opposing player has his back to goal?
They say that some things never change, and the requirement of every Spurs squad to contain at least one terminally injured player is one of them. Most clubs that have players absent through injury for long periods of time actually KNOW whats wrong with them. Be it broken legs, muscle tears or madness (naming no names). We have players that spend a month on the sidelines with, and here i quote Senor Ramos, "...problems in the head".

That was all a bit disjointed. When did this turn into a scathing attack on Dawson? I actually quite like Dawson. Better not get me started on Chimbonda...

Anyway, although i think its a lot of money on someone so prone to injury and at 28 is getting no younger, there is no doubting the boys class, even with a haircut like the missus'.

One last thought. Although I personally have no time for racism, perhaps a few choice words from Woodgate in Chimbos ear could hasten the mercenaries departure? See, bigotry doesn't always have to be bad...
